Small Business CEO Days
Taking a monthly CEO Day is such a great practice to keep on top of the ins and outs of your biz. Do you take CEO Days!? I do mine monthly. I try by best to schedule it on the 1st of every month (or at least on the first Wednesday of every month). This day is dedicated to review the past month while setting goals for what’s ahead. Allot yourself the time and space to reflect and organize. The months can blur together, so it’s important to be aware of what you've accomplished. Recognize where you've been and focus then shift the focus on tomorrow.
Here’s what I do on my CEO Days…
Review Financials and Expenses
Finalize those books, look at your profits and losses. Overview your finances and the upcoming expenses.
This one is a kick in the butt if you’re not into numbers and math. But, it’s also super important to understand your biz. This is definitely something that people outsource, but I suggest at least reviewing it yourself to fully understand your biz. You’re the CEO and CFO. Figure out your revenue, profit and expenses. Cut and add things as it helps your business. Consider budgets and how you can reallocate funds to where they are most needed.
Review Analytics
Know your growth. Website traffic, followers, subscribers, revenue, etc.
Then, it's time to review analytics. Connecting Google analytics to as much as possible is helpful. But, I use Meta Business Suite for Facebook and Instagram. Squarespace has analytics of their own. TikTok, Pinterest, LinkedIn, etc. for their respective analytics. In this review, consider what content performed the best within their content pillars. This allows me to tweak my content strategy according to my audience and their preference.
Review Monthly Goals + current growth
Journaling and reflecting. Look at everything you did this month and set goals for improvement.
Review the goals you set for the past month. And then, set goals for the month ahead based on previous growth. Make sure that the goals are ambitious and challenging, but not completely unrealistic. These goals are based on simple growth numbers (i.e. follower count, number of clients, revenue, LinkedIn connections, etc.)
Plan your Organic Marketing through Social Media
Plan the content, engagement goals, etc. for the upcoming month.
Build a Content Strategy
Now, it's time to build out a new content strategy with new concepts and connections to our niche content and purpose pillars. Consider what older content performed well and can be repurposed. What formats, topics, etc. did your audience engage most with? What performed well for your competitors? This is what you can build the strategy off of and continue to grow and evolve from.
Organize the Content Calendar for the Month
This is where you plan out the content for the month ahead. Get creative. Iron and plan out the specific ideas that you want to cover in the upcoming month. What services/products are you wanting to promote? What do you want to teach your audience? How are you making yourself relatable to your followers? How can you better engage with your online community? Plan out the month and batch create as much content and copywriting as you can.
Get Clean and Organized
Phone files, your desk, office space, computer files and downloads
Who you are following, saved posts/audio, your canva account or creative platform
General housekeeping & refresh; email inbox
Whatever needs a clean up - highlight covers, email signature, portfolio, branding, website, etc.
And most importantly, celebrate the goals achieved and how far you've come.
